1 – Find light in darkness
The spiritual significance of the Cold Moon is that it is a time to celebrate the light in the darkness, especially when the darkness is at its darkest and especially cold.
This spiritual metaphor speaks to a time in life that feels like a “dark time,” and a particularly grim time at that – a time when the world feels more harsh and unforgiving than other times.
I don’t always like to mentally think about times like this in my own life as I relax at night, but it’s helpful to do so occasionally because it’s in these times that you find your own light and strengths.
These “rays” can be personal strengths or they can be tangible allies and assets that help you come out of this period.
Please bear with me for a moment and consider a moment like this in your life.
Do you remember a time when life felt dark and cold?
You might use the term “long winter” to describe this period, or in the term “feast or famine,” I mean the leaner period.
Is there something that gives you light in the darkness?
Think “light,” as in anything that represents beauty, optimism, and hope. While it may not be immediately apparent, when you reflect, there is usually at least a glimmer of light even in the coldest of dark times.
The full moon lights up the sky when the nights are longest, so the cold moon can be a great symbol of light in dark times, and how important it is to seek it and be grateful for it no matter what.
2 – Looking back on the past year
The Cold Moon is the last full moon before the New Year, so it’s an opportunity to reflect on everything that has happened over the past year.
Take some time to sit quietly and reflect on the last 12 months of your life, no matter what happened (or didn’t happen), and let some gratitude sink in.
Since this is a time of reflection and letting go to make way for the new, consider how you can be more gentle and caring with yourself. Let go of judgment or unrealistic expectations of loved ones and create space for positive self-expression.
Think about ancestral patterns, structures, or traditions that you are willing to let go or evolve in 2024 to make life more supportive of you and the people in your life.
Now is also a prime window for resolving any estranged relationships.
To harness the energy of this cold month, reflect on how you want to move forward in creating your family foundation, and perhaps let go of outdated interpersonal dynamics that no longer serve you or your loved ones.
3 – Embrace higher sensitivity
This time the Cold Moon is in Cancer, a sign ruled by the Moon, a sign known for its high emotional intelligence. They care deeply about their loved ones and create a warm family life.
This means taking care of your emotional needs and the needs of your loved ones.
This moon may bring up suppressed emotions, bringing an opportunity to maintain greater awareness and find inner harmony. You may find yourself feeling extra sensitive, vulnerable, or wanting to protect and protect your loved ones.
Because the Cold Moon is also a time to reflect on all things 2023, it can also trigger a lot of changes.
People naturally go into periods of introspection to process and make new decisions. This may create uncertainty and thus additional sensitivity.
If you find yourself feeling sensitive, grab your favorite self-care tool and use it. You have time. It could be a cup of tea, the smell of essential oils, sitting with your favorite cat, or even just breathing in the fresh air outside.
