Just like “riding a bicycle”, spiritual knowledge and skills once learned can never be lost or forgotten. Even if you haven’t practiced or used a skill for a long time, you can always pick it up again quickly because it’s stored in your soul’s memory.
There is a degree of persistence in spiritual growth and learning. Spiritual learning is very different from the acquisition of academic knowledge or vocational skills. Soul growth and spiritual development result from deeply personal experiences, profound moments of insight, and personal transformations that fundamentally change the nature of our souls forever.
Our soul memory is essentially the memory bank of our higher self. Like a stored layer of enlightenment or the Akashic Records, it preserves all of our acquired spiritual wisdom and abilities, making them easily accessible after a period or even a lifetime of disuse or neglect.
I was reminded of this fact at a recent channeling event I attended where a medium demonstrated some of the channeling techniques and methods she has relied on in her own journey of psychic development.
Decades ago, I took a spiritual development course at the Arthur Findlay School of Spiritualism and Psychic Science in Essex, England. In the course, we did an interesting exercise to practice “ribbon psychometry.”
Objects and personal belongings hold energy and stories that, if listened to, can lead us to deeper understanding and sometimes even solve mysteries~ Pam Coronado
Psychometrics is the spiritual practice of reading or transmitting messages through spiritual contact, also known as “psychometry.” Aura tangy is a form of extrasensory perception in which practitioners perceive psychic impressions from objects they touch or hold. The practice was first popularized in the 1840s by American physiology professor Joseph Buchanan, who coined the term “psychometry” and conducted experiments to demonstrate the phenomenon.
Leonora Piper was one of the most highly regarded psychic mediums of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, known for her remarkable psychometric abilities, which she demonstrated to many researchers of her time . Her ability to perceive details of an object’s owner simply by holding it made a significant contribution to the exploration and modern understanding of psychometric and psychological phenomena.
We can glean a wealth of psychic information from touching or holding everyday objects, especially things like jewelry and clothing that still bear the energetic imprint of their owners, living or deceased. I have even witnessed psychics provide information to grieving pet owners while they held the dead dog’s collar and toys.
Ribbon psychometry is a variation of this practice in which the psychometric object (also called the linking object) is a ribbon. This is a popular practice often performed in psychic seminars and spiritual development courses. Participants were asked to “read” ribbons held, worn or owned by others. They then attempted to perceive mental impressions about the person’s life experiences, history, personality, and emotions based solely on holding the ribbon.
The use of ribbons in readings may have been inspired by Celtic mysticism. Ribbons have been traditionally used in Pagan rituals and rituals, and can be found in a variety of contemporary Wiccan and Neo-Pagan practices. The use of ribbons in these contexts has symbolic meaning and is often part of ritual practices designed to express intention, bind unwanted energy, or celebrate connections to the natural world, the sacred, and other things. In modern Pagan customs, ribbons are used in a variety of ways, including maypole dances, fasting ceremonies, wishing trees, and rituals designed to protect, heal, or remove negative energy.
I remember having so much fun doing my first ribbon reading at Arthur Findlay College many years ago. In last week’s channeling session we did a similar exercise but using colored strips of paper. It brings back great memories. I remember our tutor in college placing a large bundle of colorful ribbons in the center of the circle of students. We each took turns picking a ribbon from the pile of colorful ribbons and then returned to our seats. We were encouraged to stroke the ribbon for a few minutes, allowing the material to absorb our energy signatures.
The light carried by objects is as unique to us as sunlight is to you. The moment you hand us an object, we form an impression of its owner, whether that’s a current owner or a past owner, and often both~ Leonora Piper
Next, we were paired with a classmate and exchanged and read each other’s ribbons. I remember being paired with an older Welsh gentleman. As a newbie, he seemed just as nervous as I was at the time, but it was amazing the details he was able to learn about me and my life from that ribbon. When I told him he was right, he seemed pleasantly surprised, even a little shocked!
Then it was my turn to read to him, and now I realize he’s going to be a hard one to follow! But I calmed myself down and used the techniques we learned to tap into our psychic awareness and leave our left brain unaffected.
I don’t quite remember what I told him in the reading, but I do remember my first impression was that he drove a green car from home to class early that morning. I remember telling him that it looked to me like some kind of SUV, like a Land Rover or a Range Rover. I also thought he might be an off-road enthusiast. I also remember feeling a strong emotional connection between him and his daughter, and that she was interested in energy healing.
I breathed a sigh of relief when the reading was finally over, remembering feeling a bit silly talking about a vehicle I knew nothing about! However, he did confirm that he did drive a short wheelbase Land Rover (I had to ask him to explain it to me). He also confirmed that his daughter was studying Reiki at the time and that they did have a very close relationship.
The recent psychic event and the subsequent memory of this particular experience have now inspired me to revisit the art of psychometrics and possibly start practicing it again. I remember we were taught that the best way to start was with metal objects because they store energy so well. This could be jewelry, keys, or a watch that a person uses or wears regularly. So, I figured this would be my next step in “getting back on the bike.”
While our spiritual learning and skill development has some durability, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t require some maintenance. Just as a bicycle may need tweaking after years of disuse, we need spiritual practices to fully reactivate and embody their spiritual insights and skills. But it’s worth reminding that nothing we learn spiritually is lost or in vain.
