Mining Saturn Gold Nuggets
Saturn and Capricorn are associated with mines, mining, and ores, which seems like a perfect metaphor for understanding the hard work required to mine, extract the ore and then turn it into gold or diamonds.
Saturn is the master of time and creates delays and obstacles to bring us into the present moment. Can we enjoy the moment and smell the roses, or are we perpetually impatient with frustrations and desires? Saturn delays us and reminds us what is important. We must learn this lesson in this time of crisis or else cower in fear.
Saturn thrives through hard work, responsibility, meditation and caution. It’s the turtle where slow and steady wins the race, it teaches patience and allows us to slow down and enjoy the slow and steady ride. Saturn thrives on meditation, introspection, and the pursuit of enlightenment. Saturn wants us to move toward perfection, but ultimately, he slows us down and is too cautious to get us along the way. Saturn is a “no” person and Jupiter is a “yes” person. He thrives on rules and boundaries and inhibits expansion. Sometimes this energy is necessary.
The dark side of suffering Saturn is self-abuse, which can lead to low self-esteem. Saturn was probably a terrible high school gymnastics coach who beat us by making us work twice as hard in order to win the championship. When Saturn is weak, it can cause melancholy, loneliness and depression.
From a social perspective, Saturn represents ordinary but essential workers. Saturn rules construction, is down to earth, and enjoys building infrastructure and manifesting it in the material world. He likes the earth and likes to stay away from city life and return to nature. Saturn prefers farming and avoids city life and the complexities of the world. In order to respect Saturn, one must be authentic, pragmatic and humble. Saturn demands integrity. Saturn requires us to do our job and not rely on others.
Saturn wants to stay true and authentic in relationships. He demands seriousness and takes no prisoners. The truth matters. Saturn requires us to be logical and speak with precision, rather than the wild dreamy guesswork of Pisces.
Saturn has a very spiritual side and loves retreats, meditation, yoga and solitude. He delights in transcending the senses, which is the ultimate reality of death [another realm of which Saturn rules]. Karmically speaking, Saturn asks if we are willing to face the difficulties of past karma with grace and move toward spirituality.
Our planet is going through a huge test right now. Saturn gives us the opportunity to examine the way we run the world and decide if a shake-up is needed. While Saturn is in Capricorn, our government’s years of fiscal abuse and spending on military adventurism without taking care of our infrastructure will come under intense scrutiny.
Saturn’s connection with Capricorn, the tenth house of the zodiac, makes him materially ambitious. Saturn is successful only when it takes responsibility and overcomes difficulties. Saturn asks us to use the spiritual aspects of Saturn to commit ourselves to the world and uplift society. If we become overly obsessed with material achievements, we can become caught up in excessive pursuits and accumulate too much stress. The challenge is to work hard (not complain) and realize that hard work and responsibility are part of a mature life.
We will get through this crisis, but it may be a longer and more difficult process than we now imagine. No astrologer can predict the future with 100% accuracy or say exactly when these challenges will end. We need our collective free will to make the bold and compassionate choices necessary to change our world. The process has just begun.
