Outside the window, I saw large tracts of snow falling down, covering the ground like a fluffy mink coat. The cars skid as the plows drive past them, scrambling to catch up with the pile. Winter is here, bringing with it all its messy yet beautiful glory.
When the weather gods decided to play skate, much of the world came to a standstill. While my state is used to this amount of snow every year, other states are not prepared. But I wasn’t focusing on those poor fools. Instead, I basked in the snowflakes, content to stay inside.
My sister says I’m the only person she knows who loves winter. She may be right.
It’s quiet this time of year, especially now that the holidays are about to become a thing of the past. This is my chance to hibernate (although, frankly, I’m in hibernation mode these days). I write, read and bake. I was less likely to have company or be invited to any events. My introverted heart is content. As the younger generation says: This is JOMO. The joy of missing out. (I’ve also seen FOBO’s thrown around…fear of being invited. Maybe that’s more accurate for me.)
Soon the snow will stop and my new shovel will create a winding path around the house. The salt will be tossed and melting will begin. Nothing lasts forever, not snow, not salt, not winter. Even so, I try to stick to this time of year as long as I can.
The hustle and bustle outside will be over, but I hope my hibernation lasts until winter.
