Thursday starts like any other day with a routine of writing, showering, and running errands. However, things took an unexpected turn when an important medical appointment was disrupted by a cyber attack, leaving the front desk unable to access their computers. The question of whether to reschedule or go ahead with the appointment adds a layer of unpredictability to the day. We chose to keep the appointment.
Doctors and assistants have to do everything old-school with pen and paper. Thankfully, we didn’t need any more – and soon, we were on our way.
When I got home, I sat in my office chair and caught up on the latest news. Meta has a new multi-tier paid service for businesses, and I don’t like it. It seems like no one else has done this. At least, that explains why my reach has been subpar over the past few months. Oh well. technology!
Around two o’clock in the afternoon, the postman delivered the latest wad of banknotes. That includes a tax refund…something I didn’t expect. Is this a stroke of good luck – or a glitch? I deposited the money into my checking account and called my accountant and he said I shouldn’t do this unless we double-checked the reason why I was receiving the money. sigh.
After a simple dinner, it was time for class. But technology had other plans. Halfway through class, it decided to stop working. Despite my best efforts to resume the course, the course had to end early and be rescheduled for another evening. Epic technical fail! This limits my style, but there’s nothing I can do about it. The support team contacted the next day and said they would look into the matter. So now I wait. Double sigh.
As the saying goes, this is life.
Part of me wants to lose my temper and scream into the void. Another part starts worrying about all kinds of stupid, impossible scenarios. But the wise part reminds me that I have no control over the universe.
Technology failures happen, and so do cyberattacks. A mistake is made, the check arrives, and it may or may not be yours. In these cases, a quick call to your doctor’s office, tax department, or technical support can often resolve the issue. Other times, there’s nothing you can do but wait.
Interestingly, we can easily lose our balance when things don’t go according to plan. In our society, where instant gratification and technology dominate, we have become accustomed to getting what we want immediately. But life isn’t always like this. Sometimes we need to calm down, reschedule, or even refund unexpected money. Sometimes we have to surrender to the technology gods and hope for the best.
