When I attended a mystery school in the 1980s, one of the first lessons I learned was to experience intuition in action. Demonstrates a simple exercise involving grabbing someone’s attention without speaking or making direct eye contact. We simply focus our intent and attention on the back of a random person’s head, and within a minute or so, that person will often glance back at us or acknowledge our presence in some subtle way.
We practiced this exercise many times in a busy shopping mall. This is not a supernatural or mystical skill, but an illustration of a basic human ability that originated long ago. Even our primitive ancestors, the cavemen, could often sense when they were being watched, allowing them to prepare for potential danger or threats.
The exercises we learned did not demonstrate any extraordinary supernatural powers. Instead, it shows how everyone we follow responds to their own gut feelings, often without realizing why they turn and look around. This is a concrete example of the low-level, background intuitive abilities we all possess but often fail to notice or utilize in our daily lives. This course emphasizes how attuning to these subtle perceptual cues can improve our overall intuitive abilities and sensitivity.
“Intuition is actually the sudden integration of the soul into the universal flow of life. All human history is interconnected. We can know everything because everything is written there.” – Paulo Coelho>The Alchemist
Get the power of true guidance from your soul
Here are some scenarios for experiencing your intuition. This element of extrasensory perception is something everyone can explore. It comes from within and may be the product of your mind’s ability to gather facts about events combined with some metaphysical abilities. Developing your intuitive abilities can bring reliable inner guidance as needed.
5 ways to experience your intuition
1 – You have the ability to sense other people’s intentions.
- People will set off a feeling that everyone can feel. They may have a distinct “gut” reaction, such as a punch to the stomach or just a feeling of relief. It’s part of our makeup. Learning to listen to your intuition and separate it from all the other thoughts in your head is the hard part.
2 – The brain processes information faster than you can convert it into text.
- Have you ever been in a situation where you met someone and immediately and automatically disliked them? You can’t put your finger on it, but you know something is wrong. The message occurs when your brain processes their stance, what they say, their body language and combines it with a red flashing warning signal. It’s not one thing, it’s the incongruity of the whole picture. You won’t consciously see this dissonance, but it will register on a subconscious level.
3 – Learn to separate emotion and logic from intuitive cues.
- While it’s difficult, it’s not impossible if you pay close attention. Write down everything about the situation and how you reacted when you felt or sounded that way. Emotional responses are often different from logical responses or even gut responses. The more you pay attention to everything around you, the easier it will be to separate these three and know that it is your intuition that tells you to take action, be alert, or prepare for something.
4 – Paying attention to your intuition increases its power.
- Your intuition can communicate to you in many ways. When I get into trouble without realizing it, my opponent punches me in the stomach. I felt hit hard and knew it was time to make an exit plan. Other, less urgent times, I’ll have an idea or a voice come out of nowhere, or a flash of inspiration. Pay attention to the clues your intuitive abilities provide. Be very aware of what you’re going through and you’ll know when your intuition is warning you or telling you to go full steam ahead. Track it in your journal.
5 – Sleep on it.
- Sometimes, before you make a decision, someone tells you to “think again.” is a good idea. Many complex scientific breakthroughs and historical events originated from people’s dreams. Ask yourself a question that needs an answer and decide how your intuition will tell you to solve it while you sleep. Keep a piece of paper and pencil on your bedside table so you can record your answer when you wake up, otherwise you’ll forget it.
How we sabotage our intuition
There are many ways we can undermine our natural intuitive abilities. Here are 9 examples and what we can choose to do:
1. We are in such a hurry that we don’t have time to experience intuition.
- We need to slow down or be still so that our intuitive abilities can engage.
2. We do not look for the symbolic meaning of things or events and do not develop our symbolic abilities.
- We need to be open to possibilities.
3. We allow our ego to control us and insist on mastery/control of everything around us.
- The ego is threatened by the presence of intuition.
4. We confuse our intuitive abilities with fear and wishful thinking.
- When we get caught up in our own heads and let our emotions control us, we lose the gifts that our intuition can provide.
5. We continue to associate with people who don’t believe in their intuitive abilities or don’t want to tap into them.
- Intuition is contagious. But so does a lack of intuition.
6. We think we can experience intuition through strength, just like we can ride a bike or lift weights.
- Intuition comes whenever and wherever you want, but not on demand.
7. We adhere to logical, rational, and analytical thinking as the only way to solve problems and major decision-making events.
- When we pay attention and use all of our emotional intelligence tools and habits, intuition can bring us many creative alternatives that our intellect cannot imagine.
8. We listen to our ego when it tells us it can handle a problem or situation on its own.
- We allow our egos to reject the insights provided by our intuitive abilities.
9. We believe we don’t need to learn tools, skills, and habits to experience intuition in a trustworthy way.
- Being caught up in the endless loop of our minds, we never get a chance to develop our intuition to see how good it can be.
FAQs to help you experience your intuition
Intuition is more commonly thought of as having a gut feeling about something and is your mental ability to gain guidance and knowledge without proof, proof, or conscious reasoning.
Everyone has the ability to use this extra sensory perception, so there’s nothing magical about it. Just like communication. Intuition, like any skill, can be honed. Everyone has the ability to communicate in some way. The more you hone your intuitive abilities, the better you’ll get at it. Start practicing with simple and unimportant exercises and then work your way up to important exercises. This way you gain experience so you can trust your instincts.
It can be said that there is no difference between the two. But there are two situations where your intuitive abilities may differ from your psychic abilities. 1) Imagine you are trying to solve a problem at work. You’ve consciously considered all possible solutions, but you can’t decide on the best way forward. Your boss steps in, tries to help, and says, “Let’s do Plan B.” When you imagine going ahead with Plan B, you quickly get a sick gut feeling. For me, if I can’t decide on an option when I’m making a decision, noticing my gut feeling about moving forward with an option is one of the best rules of thumb for tapping into my intuitive abilities. 2) Suppose you are choosing between two dates. If you can put your hands on something that everyone uses regularly (watch, phone, pen, coat, etc.), hold the object and notice any feelings or images that come to mind. This is called psychometric psychic ability.
Our primitive brain possesses a limbic system that receives physical information from our five senses and processes it into intuition, resulting in instinctive fight or flight actions. The limbic system can also receive intuitive cues, metaphysical messages, and process them in one way or another into feelings for action. In short, instinct works with physical messages and intuition works with metaphysical messages.
Developing your intuition can help you make better decisions. Help choose the right action to take. Helping you pick the best person for your personal or business situation. Make it clear which is the better direction.
Yes, trust your gut because it is always right. Genuine intuitive experiences will have these characteristics: they are non-judgmental, non-emotional, short and to the point, fleeting and subtle, non-selfish, simple, symbolic and not fearful or guilt-based. If your gut seems to be scaring you, it’s not your gut.
